1962 Fender Stratocaster, Fiesta Red. This is a late 1962 (early veneer board) Stratocaster with a complete neck and body refinish in Fiesta Red (original colour not known). I believe the refinish was done some time in the 1990s, so is showing at least a little age by now, but has not been reliced or anything to try to feign originality. Other than the refin, this is a substantially original vintage Strat.Changed parts are as follows:. Replaced pickguard & shield (period correct reissue). All else checks out for originality, including. Original 3-way switch, cap and Stackpole tone pots (both dated week 32, 1962). Cosmetically, there is a little wear & tear since the refin.
There are three small paint chips, one on the front two on the rear, as well as some buckle-rash on the rear of the body. But otherwise all is commendably clean.
And the playing condition is excellent. There is very little fret wear and no significant pitting to the fretboard. The neck is good and straight and the frets well finished and nicely level. The sound from the pickups is very well balanced (for a vintage Strat) and just a tad darker than average in a really good way. In fact overall, although Ive had quite a few vintage Strats over time, I dont think Ive ever enjoyed playing any more than this one.All working parts (controls, trem, tuners, trussrod, adjustment screws) are functioning 100%. All round, simply a great vintage Strat that needs nothing except to be played.
This comes with a brand new condition Fender Pro-series black tolex case. But unfortunately this needs a CITES re-export certificate to go outside the EU, so the cost has to be included.
