Ive decided to sell my Super Balanced Action alto sax, serial #40xxx. It retains much of the original factory lacquer. This sax does however show inconsequential lacquer wear on the key cups, palm keys, and touch keys.

The low C key post had to be re-soldered, as well as diminutive solder work near the tightening ring. There are no dents or dings that I can see with my 80-year-old eyes.

This 68-year-old horn in my opinion still looks good, even with the spot freckling and noted normal lacquer wear. The engraving and logo on the bell is crisp. The floral engraving is very discernable, highly elaborate and highly detailed over most of the bell down to the bow. The neck is original to the horn with no issues, new cork with the overhaul.

I had it totally overhauled six-months ago, by a highly-regarded sax technician who does saxophone repads full time. The horn was totally dissembled and chemically dipped in an environmentally safe cleaning solution. It was than repaded using Lucien pads with plastic resonators. Corks and felts were replaced as well. It was then reassembled and regulated. Since Im no longer the active player I once was, I only played it briefly since the re-pad. It resonates in tune throughout. It responds more on the brighter side than most of the horns Ive owned in the past.

I played the horn using my Meyer Bros. It is ready to play right out of the case. It comes with an original Selmer Tri-Pak carrying case.

No odor, no tears, no issues. One handle is wrapped in leather. Both handles are original, sturdy and serviceable. The super balanced action saxes are considered by many, the best ever produced by Selmer.

Production of the SBAs began in 1948 and ended 1953. They produced less than 20,000 horns. My preference has always been SBAs, and Ive owned and played many MK. VIs during my professional playing career. This SBA produces a rich, warm, tonal quality.

Still many good years of playing left in this SBA. Ive placed a very modest reserve on this sax.

Please note: There appears to be a question as to the originality of the lacquer. There was no intend on my part to misrepresent the authenticity of the lacquer. In either case, the lacquer question does not take anything away from response of this horn! Thank you for your understanding.
