SELMER Paris BALANCED ACTION 1936 TENOR SAX RE-LACQUER, Original case

RARE SELMER BALANCED ACTION 1936 ONE OF A KIND Tenor saxophone. My dad, Mike Metzger, played this instrument from 1936 thru the early 1950's during the "BIG BAND era". Mike was a tenor man in the following bands with this exact instrument: Artie Shaw New York shows, Eddie Ashman, Grossinger's Hotel, Catskills, Alexander Olshanensky, Concord Hotel, Catskills, and numerous Broadway shows. Now to the instrument: Re- lacquer about 50 years ago and maintains about 60-70% lacquer. My dad was very careful of repairs that where only made by the best, Nick Engleman of New York, referred to my dad by Jimmy Dorsey.

Then in Los Angeles, Stein on Vine, the home of Stan Getz. However, not playing the instrument for 40 years I recently brought it in to the top repair man in Hollywood and it definitely needs pads. SOUND: A beautiful big full warm sound. Think of the great sax men of the 1940' up to the warm mellow tone of Stan Getz. Case is as good as new and is covered with a custom made form-fitting heavy material. The zipper on the COVER is in need of repair. SPECIAL NOTE: One Selmer chart identified the horn as Radio Improved and another chart states it is an early Balanced Action horn. Several sax men have identified the unique engraving and the right hand note guards as definitely Balanced Action as well as the left hand spatula. So, I will go along as representing my dad's sax as a BALANCED ACTION horn. Also, recently it was brought to my attention that for the 1936 Balanced Action tenor's the Selmer Company used the center tube from Radio Improved horns. Several tenor men have contacted me as well as a call to Selmer that stated that it does not make any difference concerning quality of the instrument. Case in fine shape, (could be the original). Canvass case cover holds tightly. The item "SELMER Paris BALANCED ACTION 1936 TENOR SAX RE-LACQUER, Original case" is in sale since Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
