The back, sides are high grade Koa (probably AAA or Master grade I would say). The Koa is very 3D and shimmery, just such beautiful wood used on this one!I believe the top is Sitka Spruce with a surrounding abalone inlay. The fretboard is ebony with the SC early style abalone inlays. The neck wood is flamed maple. The tuners are German Schallers. The guitar is completely original and is in excellent condition. No repairs or modifications, not even a strap button added.
It has scratches and some very minor dings as it has been played quite a bit during it's 26 years thusfar, but shows beautifully. The action and neck angle are perfect, low action with no buzz even with heavy strumming. The nut is 1 and 3/4ths wide. The strings are 2 and 1/4 wide at the bridge.
This is a great fingerpicker's or flatpicker's guitar. I had never owned, or loved a Koa acoustic until I played this one. I've played many but personally, Koa always sounded a bit too bright and hard for my taste and playing style. This guitar has a deeper, more complex quality to it's tone akin to some Brazilian rosewood guitars from my earlier playing days. I hung on to this Santa Cruz longer than any other guitar.
It just has a sound, and beauty I never got tired of. I would surely keep this if I could but the stack of bills here is getting taller. I imagine this beauty would cost about 7 or 8 grand if Santa Cruz made this one at current prices. To me, pre-owned acoustics are an amazing bargain.
I had to keep it put away for a couple of weeks so I could even bear to list it! The case is original, very heavy duty and in great shape. Very careful with packing, etc. All questions will be answered promptly. The item "Santa Cruz Custom Koa Cutaway Acoustic Guitar" is in sale since Sunday, November 20, 2016.
