Levin Parlor guitar from 1934
This is a Swedish Levin parlor guitar from 1934. The serial number shown at the top of the machine head is 90150. The usual Levin label of the period can be seen through the sound hole and again the Levin mark can be seen on the machine head. Tone and volume are good as you would expect a from a classy Levin guitar of this era with its well aged wood. But I suggest if you are interested you search Levin parlor guitar on youtube where you will find lots of examples of these guitars being played. This will give you a better understanding of how it sounds than a verbal description from me.

They are popular among country blues players. This guitar is, however, at the moment not set up for slide guitar and has the low string action suited for conventional playing. Being a 90 year old instrument there are one or two blemishes but overall its outstanding for its age and in completely playable condition. The finger board is a very attractive walnut. The frets and finger board are both in good condition with mother of pearl fret markers.

The attractively shaped bridge is a nice feature as is the mellow, matured finish both on the top lock and back and sides. There is attractive inlay in the rosette and edging of the lock. Total length is 96cm and scale length (nut to 12th fret) is 31.2cm. Width of the neck at the nut is 4.5cm. At the bottom bout the measurement is 31cm and at the top is 22.5cm.

So its a genuine parlour guitar. The guitar will come well packed.

Its a lovely little guitar. Please see my other instruments on sale this week.

I have had one or two questions from potential buyers about straightness of the neck and about any restoration work done on the guitar. The neck is very straight despite the guitar predating the use of truss rods.

The finish on the instrument is original with no touch ups. I knew the old lad who was the owner from new.

He was very careful both with the guitar and himself and lived to be over 100 years. I think the bridge has been shaved some time in the dim and distant. The job was well done. Other than that I don't think anything else has been done other than string replacement.

There is a set of earthtone lights on the guitar at the moment. These very old guitars don't like heavy or even medium strings. The item "Levin Parlor guitar from 1934" is in sale since Monday, June 15, 2020.
