The Culture Project is a New York-based off Broadway Theater company that does groundbreaking work in the areas of Human Rights and Social Justice, and the sale of this Guitar will support that ongoing work. Owned, played and recorded on by music legend John McLaughlin. Built by American master Abraham Wechter. This extraordinary one-of-a-kind commissioned guitar built by American master Abraham Wechter in the 1970s for guitar legend John McLaughlin is a handmade acoustic guitar with nylon strings, and a built in electronics and condenser microphone from Fishman audio in Massachusetts.

McLaughlin began his celebrated career in the early 1960s as the electric guitarist for Georgie Fames rocking Blue Flames. In the late 60s and early 70s, he explored electric guitar jazz-rock fusion with Tony Williamss Lifetime and Miles Davis Bitches Brew, On the Corner and Live at the Cellar Door bands. McLaughlin toured with Spanish flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, composed two critically acclaimed concertos for classical guitar and orchestra, and developed a unique style of jazz-infused Indian classical music with his band Shakti. Abraham Wechter is an American master, who has been making custom guitars since the 1970s.

He is best-known for building 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars, many of them with his "Pathmaker" design, an acoustic guitar with double cutaway. His most noted collaboration is with guitar virtuoso John McLaughlin, a collaboration which began in 1976 when Wechter build the "Shakti guitar, " used in the recordings with Shakti. The Shakti guitar is a customized Gibson J-200 with drone strings transversely across the soundhole. He also made him a guitar with scalloped fingerboards.

To Whom it may concern, I the undersigned, John Mclaughlin, guarantee the authenticity of my guitar held currently by Allan Buchman. This guitar was custom built for me by Abraham Wechter, and is featured on a number of my recordings, notably The Guitar trio album'Passion Grace and Fire' The recording "Time Remembered", "The Mediterranean Concerto", and is the instrument I play on the recording in 1987 in Switzerland of Paco de Lucia and myself which is to be released early 2016.
