Hammond C3 Organ- 1955 Organ, Foot Pedals, and Bench (B3 in a church cabinet)
Beautiful 1955 C3 Hammond organ. A little info on this organ. The Hammond C3 has the exact same electronics and functions as the famous B3 organ- just put into a different style cabinet. The C3 cabinet was originally intended primarily for church use with a more modest cabinet design that does not expose the legs of the organ player. This particular C3 is from 1955 (many consider this year to be one the very best years for Hammond organs).

I had the preamp completely tested and all out of spec tubes and components were replaced by a certified tech. Although there is no Leslie connector installed on this organ, I was able to manually wire through a Leslie connector in my B3 after the preamp was reinstalled to test the organ. Really, one of the best I've heard, and I've played a lot of Hammonds! Percussion is nice and crisp but not piercing, all drawbars and notes are working as they should, the keyboard action is smooth and consistent throughout. The only thing I noticed is that the vibrato circuit is exhibiting the classic "motor boat" symptoms.

This is a common issue with organs of this age and it is usually caused by a build up of dendrites in the vibrato unit. There is a lot of info on the web about how to fix this common problem. You can manually disassemble and clean them (time consuming but relatively easy process) or sometimes you can even just carefully apply a small voltage to the unit and the dendrites will burn up. (I did this to my A100 when it was exhibiting similar issues about 10 years ago and the problem cleared right up- no issues since)- again there is a lot of info on the web about this procedure as well. Fix the vibrato and install a Leslie connector kit and this organ will be truly amazing!

This listing includes the Hammond C3 organ with original foot pedals and bench. This organ does not include a Leslie or a Hammond tone cabinet. The cabinet is in such great shape, I just can't bring myself to chopping this one- it really is a beauty! I have tried to be as transparent and clear as possible in all known issues with this Hammond but, due to the age of the instrument and the nature of vintage electronics, I can not guarantee that no future issues arise.

Owning a Hammond is a lot like owning a classic vintage car. Be prepared to work and maintain them regularly. But just like a classic car, there is nothing like playing and sitting behind the real thing!
