The strings are good Thomastik Dominant. This violin is well adjusted, properly set up, and ready to play. The biographical information below is excerpted in part from Farina's website. Giampiero Farina was born in Palermo in 1975. In 1990, parallel to scientific studies, he started playing the guitar in some of pop music groups in his city. Over the years he begins to take over the maintenance and small restorations, especially guitars and other stringed instruments. In 1995 he decided to turn his passion into something more concrete, moving to Cremona and attending the Institute for International Professional Violin Making Crafts and Wood I. , under the guidance of Maestro Massimo Negroni. From 1998 he began frequenting the workshops of Cremona where he learns some of the personal methods of professionals that will expand its knowledge base. His production is inspired by both classic models, Stradivari and Montagnana, for cellos and violins, and modern, and Adorned Garimberti, for violins and violas. From 2006 to 2010 deals with construction and restoration of Violin Making in the Atelier Lanini & Natolini Locarno (CH). In October of 2010 he moved to Tuscany, where he gives life to his studio in the town of Cecina (LI). This violin is ready for immediate performance and has a tone worthy of an expert player.
This is a very smooth and even sound across the strings with a warmer, darker color overall. It is velvety and refined, free from any harsh edges or strident tones. Despite its expansive warmth and silky smoothness, there is very capable brilliance to be found when bowing nearer the bridge with a heavier hand. The range is there and delivers a pure, warm, sweet and focused sound with the lightest touch, or a more brilliant, clear and dominant sound when pressed. The violin plays easily and predictably, and produces delightful harmonics and chiming overtones when played well. This is a delightful instrument that will impress even the most demanding professional.
This is a full-sized violin. The back measures 352 mm. My violins are ready to play when they arrive and need no repairs. No hassles and no arguments. The only things I ask, are to let me know if you are going to keep it or return it within 14 days.
If you need a bit more than 14 days, the trial period can sometimes be extended. Please contact me directly if there are any questions, concerns, problems or issues. Contact me first if you plan to return the violin and I will take care of everything in a prompt and professional manner.
The violin does not come with a case or bow. I use packing materials designed to provide superior protection for old violins.
