I've received some inquiries about the serial number on this guitar. It was made for the Japanese market only and my guess is the numbers don't jive with typical Hamer serial numbers because it's a special guitar.
It was made in the USA and is totally legit. This guitar was featured in an issue of Vintage Guitar magazine. Not one like it, this very guitar. I will include the magazine. 1996 Hamer USA Standard Rick Nielsen Signature. Truly a very rare guitar here. One of 15 pieces - made in the USA for the Japanese distributor of Hamer guitars.
All of the typical specs of a USA Standard from the same era with Rick's signature on the headstock. Mahogany body and neck, bound bookmatched flame maple top, 24 3/4 scale, bound rosewood fretboard with crown inlays, Schaller tuners, Duncan pickups, 2 volume/one tone, three way toggle, Dunlop straplocks, gold hardware. Original Hamer hardshell case with original truss rod wrench and keys. It's in great condition for a 23 year old guitar but not mint.
There is some fading of the gold on the tailpiece and tuners and some faint pick swirling/hazing between the pickups but that's about all I see. Perhaps some slight swirl marks from cleaning but nothing really noticeable. No breaks, cracks, repairs, or mods of any kind. Frets and fretboard are in good shape with years of playability left.No buckle rash on back. Lower 48 US States only. The item "1996 Hamer USA Standard Rick Nielsen Signature Rare!
