1866 J. B. Dunham Square Grand Piano
This listing is for the piano only. There is no bench for it. Here is some information from a piano restoration company: AGE: Your piano appears to be circa 1866, just before the firm was changed to J. GENERAL INFORMATION: I can tell from your photos that your piano is made of Brazilian Rosewood and is of the Empire Revival Victorian Style. Your piano Brazilian Rosewood is now endangered and is nearly impossible to get in the United States. It is very desirable as a result. Your piano appears to be in original unrestored condition with the old worn strings and felts still present. The average piano has about a 50-year life span before it needs restoration, so the fact your piano is in such good condition at this age is a testament to the quality that went into building it 100+ years ago! The piano would need total restoration in order to be tunable and usable.
It is fascinating to think that with the endangered Brazilian Rosewood and the endangered ivory, your piano could not be built today.
